Anniversary of the mouse

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7751627.stm records both the fortieth anniversary and the billionth mouse made by Logitech. Although I tend to agree with Mr Dooley in the article that the mouse isn’t likely to disappear in the foreseeable future (it’s too familiar and too central to the way that we use computers for that to happen)I do think his claim about a billion of anything being made is a bit overblown. How many billion light bulbs have been made in the last 40 years, I wonder?

Doug Engelbart, who came up with the very first mouse, is still an influential thinker in the field, now aged over 80
